U.S. Border Patrol seized about 700 pounds of marijuana in Van Horn

VAN HORN, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Agents with the U.S. Border Patrol seized about 700 pounds of marijuana in Van Horn. Agents investigated a group of individuals with night vision technology. The individuals were believed to have entered the U.S. illegally, according to Border Patrol. Border Patrol said they followed the individual’s footprints throughout the night. On Monday around 4 a.m., agents along with service dogs approached the individuals to make an arrest. Agents said the individuals absconded from the agents leaving behind seven makeshift rectangular backpacks. Agents said there was marijuana inside the backpacks that weighed over 400 pounds. Around 10 a.m., a CBP aircraft found the individuals in Van Horn with large rectangular backpacks. Agents arrested four out of the five individuals and seized five backpacks that also contained marijuana and weighed about 300 pounds, according to agents. Agents said the individuals are from Mexico and were undocumented.
